"But if I didn't respect someone, and they didn't have that strength, then I would be bored," she says in the January issue of Elle. "I wouldn't be attracted to them," she adds. "I have to be really livid. Somebody saying things or scheduling something where I'm not in control." Using all the profanity "was freeing, but it was also the most emotionally draining time of my life. Every day I would come home; my eyes would be completely swollen," she says. "My husband came up and said, 'Tina! She's got the No. 1 record on the radio!' I said, 'I don’t care!'" Tina says. "I was terrified. I had seen people take your child and turn them into something you didn’t want them to be. "I taught my girls to pick up their own suitcases," she adds. "Pretty is as pretty does. The rapper – who has kept mum about his romance with Ashanti for years – is finally ready to dish. The key to their below-the-radar relationship, he tells PEOPLE, is that they both love to have a good time. "That's the thing between me and her, we just like having fun," he said Sunday at Las Vegas's Lavo club, where he was celebrating his 34th birthday. Although Ashani was in Japan and couldn't attend the party, Nelly admitted that the two have been "hanging out for a minute." (That's a bit of an understatement. In fact, they've been linked on and off since 2003.) So is it serious? "I think it's always serious,” he said, “when you can hang with a person continuously ... and [“still”] have fun." Earlier this summer, Ashanti would only call Nelly a "good friend." The Step Up star headed to Lucky magazine's Guide to Mastering Any Style party in West Hollywood Thursday night, wearing a slinky black dress and flashing her engagement ring by Neil Lane. As for her beau's proposal in Maui last month, "I don't like to talk about it too much," Dewan demurred. Still, she couldn't contain her enthusiasm. "I'm just so freaking happy," she gushed to PEOPLE. "It's great." So far, the happy couple hasn't started planning their big day. "I need to enjoy being engaged," the 27-year-old explained. Model Agyness Deyn and Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. are tying the knot, a source close to the couple tells Usmagazine.com. Check out more celeb wedding photos. "They just got engaged!" the insider tells Us. "It happened within the past few days." Deyn, 25, and Hammond, 28, showed up hand-in-hand to the Songwriters Hall of Fame awards gala in NYC on June 20. Ever since, they've been packing on the PDA throughout the Big Apple. "They were locking lips passionately" at Noel Ashman's birthday at NYC's The Plumm, where Deyn served as DJ on July 3, says one witness. Adds the pal: "They're really sweet.
